11:00 am to 4:00 pm
Samuel Worth Chapel, Sheffield General Cemetery
The Chapel is free to enter, tours must be booked on line, £5.
As part of the city wide commemoration of the 160th anniversary of the Sheffield Flood in which over 250 people lost their lives, we are working with Bradfield Church, Bradfield Archives, Loxley Cemetery, Wadsley Church, Wardsend Cemetery and Burngreave Cemetery, all of whom are staging events. Please see their websites for details.
The Samuel Worth Chapel will be open to tell the story of the Sheffield Flood of 1864 through the lives of the victims buried in Sheffield General Cemetery. There will be displays of Flood photos and memorabilia, a sound installation and Sheffield General Cemetery Trust’s latest publication, Drowned Voices, will be on sale. Tours of the Flood victims graves can be booked online through our website. The cafe will be open and the bookstall will have all our current publications to browse and buy.
