A Celebration of the Life and Legacy of Professor Melvyn Jones

This event is being held at the Ecclesall Woods Discovery Centre. There will be a mixture of talks, displays and an afternoon walk in the woods visiting some of the areas which Mel chronicled through his work. There will be displays of Mel’s work and books with an opportunity to buy one and we hope a display from the green woodworkers at the Centre. There will also be the Wildtrack Bookshop display with many volumes on woodland themes and two recent books edited by Ian and published by Pelagic Publishing each with major chapters by Mel, but bear in mind that we only take cash or cheques.

On Saturday 26th there will be a morning of talks (arrival at 10am, starting at 10.30am) which will look at various aspects of Mel’s prodigious output of work centred on woodland history but also touching on other topics.  There will also be an afternoon walk on Saturday around the Woods lasting a couple of hours. This will start at 2pm. The events on Saturday must be pre-booked online. The morning’s talks session will cost £8 including tea/ coffee on arrival, limited to 35 people. The afternoon walk will cost £6 and be limited to 25 people. Bookings will open at the beginning of September with further publicity.

On Sunday 27th there will be displays of Mel’s work and books for people to drop in and browse when the centre is open. The displays will also be open to view on Saturday.
