A walking tour of Victorian and Edwardian Rotherham
Saturday, 14th June 2025
2:00 pm to 4:00 pm
Rotherham - start at Clifton Park Museum
£5.00
Starting at Clifton Park Museum in Rotherham at 2.00pm, we will walk to the town centre via Doncaster Gate (the original turnpike road to Doncaster), the former Blue Coat school (now a Wetherspoons public house!), many former banks and Rotherham Minster. We end the walk Rotherham’s famous chapel on the Bridge dating from 1483.
Meet outside the main entrance to Clifton Park Museum, Clifton Lane (A6021), Rotherham S65 2AA at 2.00pm. Please note that there are many entrances into the museum – we will set off from the entrance with the colonnaded porch by the main road.
We suggest that attendees take the opportunity to look around the Museum before the walk. It opens at 10.00am and has a cafe.
We will finish at approx 4.00pm in the town centre.
If you have parked at the Museum (pay and display), you will have a steady uphill walk back to the Museum or you can catch a bus to get there.
This walk will take 1 hour and covers a distance of about 1 mile. It is mainly downhill, although we have to go uphill to the “Crofts” area.
