Take a step back in time with this illustrated talk exploring more ancient suburbs of the city – each one with its own identity and fascinating facts.

Historic Tinsley was listed in the Domesday book of 1086 and Carbrook Hall, home to the Bright family, has a turbulent civil war history, as well as reputed to be the most haunted house in Yorkshire. Nearby in the 18th c. there stood the gibbeted body of Spence Broughton, a notorious highway robber.

On the north side is Malin Bridge, a major casualty of the 1864 Sheffield Flood and once home to numerous water wheels along the Loxley and Rivelin rivers. And discover Norton-Chantrey Land with its association with sculptor Sir Francis Chantrey and Beauchief with its ancient abbey.
