Graves Park Action for Climate Change – Evening Talks Oct. – Dec. 24

South Yorkshire Biodiversity Research Group is organising another series of indoor talks as part of the Graves Park & Local Area Action for Climate Change Project. The talks will take place at the Lees Hall Golf Club, Hemsworth Road on Monday evenings. They are free, all welcome to attend. The doors open at 6.30pm for a 7pm start and the evening finishes around 8.30pm.

Monday 7th October: Highlights from the Finding Lost Norton Park: Digging Deeper for All project with Ian Rotherham, Paul Ardron and Christine Handley. We will be sharing some of the fascinating discoveries that have been made over the course of the project. Some confirming what we already thought we knew and some new ones which are changing our views of the rich history and ecology of the area now known as Graves Park.

Monday 21th October: Introduction to lesser-known insects and invertebrates Part 2 with Paul Richards. Back in February we introduced some of the smaller creatures that might be found in Graves Park in the talk, “Introduction to Woodlice, Centipedes, Millipedes and lesser-known invertebrates”.  There are far too many to cover in one evening, so this is a continuation, looking at several further fascinating invertebrate groups that you can look for locally.  We will briefly re-visit all the previously described groups, with reference to some species which have been seen in the park during surveys this year, so you do not need to have attended the first talk to enjoy part two.  Come and be amazed at the hidden wildlife diversity on your doorstep that may have previously passed you by, un-noticed.

Monday 4th November: Sheffield Swift Network with Chet Cunago and a discussion of the conservation of swallows, martins, and swifts, with Ian Rotherham and Karon Mayor

Monday 21st November: Fungi in the Local Graves Park Area (Bolehill, Woodseats and Hollythorpe) with Steve Clements.

Monday 2nd December: Winter Birds of Graves Park and Local Gardens with Ian Rotherham
