Do you have an interest in the history of landscapes, and why the countryside looks the way it does today?
This day long workshop led by the archaeologists of Mercian Archaeology will introduce you to community members to the importance, and use of aerial photography, historic mapping and documentary research, and LiDAR in archaeological investigations. The session will include demonstration and introduction to the concept and use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to work with the above resources. All demonstrations will use freely available open-source software and data (QGIS, sources of LiDAR data, historic mapping etc.), so that after the event you will have the know-how to begin learning how to use these skills yourself.
