JUHS bi-monthly meeting

JUHS bi-monthly meetings are open to all, whatever their interest in heritage. They are an opportunity to hear from local heritage groups about their work and a great chance to make connections and to discuss problems and opportunities for Sheffield’s heritage.

Please join us to welcome our guest speaker Dr. Gui Pozzer, who will tell us about “Crafting the Past: Empowering Communities through Creative Writing, Visual Narratives, Memory, and Place-Making”. This University of Sheffield-funded collaboration with Joined Up Heritage Sheffield aims to empower Sheffield’s communities to share their stories and memories about the city’s rich industrial past and heritage.

Also from the University we welcome Dr. James Shaw, who will give a brief overview of his proposal for “Land, finance and status in Sheffield 1740-1820”. If a funding bid is successful, this will use handwriting recognition technology to create a database of transactions taken from the deeds registries held at Wakefield and Sheffield. It is another opportunity for the JUHS community to support research and help to create a resource of great value for anyone interested in the history of their local area.

Finally, there is an opportunity to meet Dr. Tosh Warwick. Tosh is working for JUHS as a freelance consultant, helping groups that are already registered on our website to get the best out of JUHS, as well looking for more local heritage groups to enrol. He is also a Research Associate in Urban Studies at the University of Sheffield.
