JUHS bi-monthly meeting – November 2024

The next JUHS bi-monthly meeting is on Tuesday 26th November 2024 at 10:30am and is a “hybrid” meeting, so you can either attend in person at the Assembly Rooms, Leah’s Yard, Cambridge Street or online via Zoom at https://us02web.zoom.us/j/83121238651?pwd=yawZEAMuUQSV8kCQbdat0aR3add3i7.1.

JUHS bi-monthly meetings are open to all, whatever their interest in heritage. They are an opportunity to hear from local heritage groups about their work and a great chance to make connections and to discuss problems and opportunities for Sheffield’s heritage.

Our guest speaker is JUHS trustee Robin Hughes, who will talk about Leah’s Yard itself. Listed Grade II*, it is often referred to as a complex of “Little Mesters’ workshops”, but that wasn’t what it was built for. Learn more about its history, who has worked here over nearly two centuries, and how it fits into the industrial fabric of Sheffield.

If attending in person, the Assembly Rooms can be accessed from the corner of the main courtyard, under the tank (see arrow on the photo).

There is an intercom – 116 Enter (a different intercom to the one outside on Cambridge Street). This will buzz the intercom in the room and someone can unlock the door. The Assembly Rooms is on the first floor. Easiest way to access it is to get in the lift which is in front of you when you enter the building, go up to the first floor, then the Assembly Rooms is directly in front of the lift when you exit. Alternatively you can use the stairs and follow the signs to the Assembly Rooms.
