JUHS bi-monthly meeting – July 2026

We are delighted to be the guests of the Hawley Collection, the largest collection of light edged tools in the world, based at Kelham Island Industrial Museum. Trustee Nick Duggan will talk about the highlights of this unparalleled collection of tools which illustrate the craft and industry that Sheffield has given to the world.

For those attending in person Nick will be getting out some items for people to handle, and after the meeting will be offering a tour of the collection’s “back office”.

How to get to Kelham Island Museum:

• By Bus: Services 7,8, and 8a stop at Mowbray Street/Corporation Street; 3, 83, and 83a at Nursery Street/Spitalfields and 81, 82, 85, and 86 at Moorfields/Allen Street.
• By Tram: We are a ten minute walk from Shalesmoor Tramstop or a fifteen minute walk from Castle Square Tramstop in the city centre.
• By road: Kelham Island Museum is located on the edge of the city centre on Alma Street, off Corporation Street (A61). You turn onto Alma Street just by the Tesco on the corner. Alma Street is now partially closed to vehicles, with barriers outside The Fat Cat pub. You can drive round to the museum car park, but have to exit the way  you came in, back onto Corporation Street. Limited visitor parking is located on the main museum site. Alma Street car park is the next closest (just a few minutes walk from the museum), located next to the Fat Cat pub. Parking charges apply.

JUHS bi-monthly meetings are open to all, whatever their interest in heritage. They are an opportunity to hear from local heritage groups about their work and a great chance to make connections and to discuss problems and opportunities for Sheffield’s heritage. The agenda also includes a guest speaker and an update on what JUHS has been doing to promote a better-resourced and better-connected presentation of heritage. Most meetings are “hybrid”, so you can either attend in person or online via Google Meets.
