Brigitte Aphrodite: Living Legends (And Dead Ones Too)

Join Brigitte Aphrodite on a wild literary road-trip, celebrating Living Legends (And Dead Ones Too) through original poetry, music, and stories. With composition by Quiet Boy, the performance is a welcoming, communal experience: a conversation starter, and a raucous night out.

Brigitte delivers captivating, standalone odes to a glittering array of legends,  highlighting both sung and unsung heroes who call our nation home. The show collects local legends from every venue it is performed – including our very own Hillsborough heroes – which will appear on Brigitte’s beautifully illustrated dress and become part of the fabric and conversation of future performances as it tours around the country. The show features dress design by Siobhan Hogan and legend illustrations by Megan Metcalf.

Brigitte will be visiting Wardsend Cemetery, Trinity Church, Hillsborough Park, and other places to chat to local people and volunteers about their favourite legends from the area. Come and see who makes it into the final show!

Performance dates and times:

Friday 23 June, New Barrack Tavern: 7pm. Free/pay what you can

Saturday 24 June, Gardeners Rest: 2pm. Free/Pay what you can

Local Legends: Storytelling Workshop with Grace Darbyshire

In honour of Brigitte Aphrodite‘s residency with us as she performs her show ‘Living Legends (And Dead Ones Too)’ in Hillsborough pubs, we are also running a free storytelling workshop! Come along and have a go at writing and performing a story about someone from Sheffield, whether it’s your mum, your pal, your old teacher, or someone from the city’s history. Absolutely no experience needed, this is a relaxed workshop open to everyone, facilitated by local writer and performer Grace Darbyshire.

Tickets include entry to Brigitte Aphrodite’s afternoon performance at the Gardeners Rest, as well as a free lunch. For those who want to, there’s also the opportunity to perform your story as part of the warm-up for Brigitte‘s show!

The workshop takes place on Saturday 24 June, 10:30 – 12:30 in Hillsborough Park Pavilion. At 12:30 lunch will be provided in the Pavilion, and we will then head over to the Gardeners Rest together to watch Brigitte perform at 2pm. Transport will be provided.
