Find out how Sheffield’s first public park, collections and museum came to be in this lunchtime talk with Alistair McLean, Curator of Natural Sciences.
In 1875, Weston Park and Sheffield Public Museum (as it was then officially known) opened their doors to the people of Sheffield for the first time. In this talk, you’ll discover the people and organisations who were integral to establishing Sheffield’s first public park and the first public museum. You’ll see how the original building and grounds, which was converted from Weston Hall, looked very different to the museum we know today.
This talk is part of a programme of events throughout June that celebrate the work and influence of landscape gardener Robert Marnock on Sheffield’s public spaces. The programme is in partnership with Sheffield General Cemetery, Sheffield Botanical Gardens and Sheffield Museums.
