Ever wondered who helped shape Sheffield into the city it is today? Step back in time with us on a guided tour of Sheffield General Cemetery, a beautifully preserved Grade II* listed site with over 180 years of history.

Explore this unique Victorian ‘Garden Cemetery’, designed in the style of a landscaped park, and uncover the stories of the people buried here – from industrialist Mark Firth and reformer Samuel Holberry, to sweetmaker George Bassett and the founders of Cole Brothers (now John Lewis). With over 87,000 burials, the Cemetery is a remarkable gateway into the city’s rich past.

You’ll visit the striking French-inspired catacombs, hear the tales behind our listed monuments and memorials, and see the recently restored Samuel Worth Chapel, now a thriving cultural space.

After the tour, join us in the Samuel Worth Chapel for a complimentary tea, coffee, hot chocolate or soft drink. Our café and bookstall will be open from 1.00pm-4.00pm, and our books will be available to purchase on the day or online beforehand.
