“Packhorse Routes in the Rivelin Area” by Melanie FitzGerald. Rivelin Valley Conservation Group Open Meeting
Thursday, 14th March 2024
7:30 pm to 9:30 pm
Stephen Hill Methodist Church
Admission £3 for members and £4 for non-members. Refreshments are included.
Local history enthusiast, Melanie FitzGerald, will look at how to identify some of the important local packhorse routes by piecing together fragments of evidence that can still be found today. Gain some new insights as to how packhorses worked, what sort of goods they carried, and find out where the routes (including Racker Way and the Long Causeway) crossed the Rivelin Valley. Melanie will draw on information from the book ‘An Introduction to Packhorse Routes in the Sheffield Lakelands Area’, which she and other volunteers researched and produced as the final product of the Heritage Highways Project.
Join us afterwards for refreshments and a chat.
