RVCG Open Meeting: “From Bell Hagge Green to Carver Fields: The history of a forgotten settlement in Crosspool”

The Rivelin Valley Conservation Group welcomes you to our October Open Meeting. Dan Eaton, a local resident, will speak to us about the history of Carver Fields, which overlook the Rivelin valley. Dan is the author of a recent book ‘Bell Hagge Green: Crosspools Hidden History’ ‘Observations on a thousand years of change on Carver Fields, Den Bank & the Bell Hagg plantation.’ The following paragraph is taken from the introduction: “In short, history is all around us – if we know where to look – and the echoes of the past still resonate with us today if we take the time to stop and notice them.  I, like my family, have lived most of my life in Crosspool and I have seen the community evolve even in the years I have been alive.  I have never taken for granted the land surrounding Carver Fields and Bell Hagg, priding myself in knowing some of its history and landscape, such as when we go to pick bilberries or blackberries, its previous use as a sports club, or that part of the plantation that was once a tip.”

Dan’s book will be on sale at the meeting and there will be an opportunity to chat over refreshments after Dan’s talk.
