Margaret Bennett’s exhibition ‘Sacred Stones’ is being hosted by the Scissors Paper Stone community history project at St John’s Ranmoor June 15th to June 29th. The exhibition will be launched on the afternoon of Saturday June 15th by the Lord Mayor. It will be followed by a concert by the choirs of St John’s of music celebrating sacred spaces. In the afternoon the Sheffield Victorian Society is organising a ‘walk and talk’ on the origins of the church by Mary Grover. Non-members are welcome for a fee of £3. The other events are free and refreshments provided.

Margaret is donating all the proceeds of her art work sales to the Inspire building project which aims to restore our church spire and to prevent it from collapse.

During the fortnight of Margaret’s exhibition there will be

  • a light and sound display inspired by the initials carved by the Victorian stone masons who built our church
  • a display of the kind of stone used in the building of the church
  • a NEW Children’s Trail helping younger visitors explore the history of St John’s
  • the Children’s Mark Making Workshop at 2pm on Saturday 29th when children can make their own clay mason’s mark and create a green man sculpture.
