This is a unique opportunity to see an archaeological site and learn about Sheffield’s history while viewing the excavations. The Castlegate area has changed dramatically over hundreds or years from castle to slaughterhouses, bowling green to steel works, and from Sheffield market to its current state. The site is now moving on to an exciting new chapter and work is underway to redevelop the area into a park.

Tours will take place on Saturday 19th September 2026. They are part of a larger programme of activities for the Castlegate Festival.

All tours last one hour and timings are below.
10:15 – 11:15
11:30 – 12:30
13:30 – 14:30
14:45 – 15:45

The content of these tours will be the same as previous tours. Please do not book if you have been on a past tour. This is to give more people the opportunity to view the site.

Restrictions: adults only and no dogs allowed on site.
