Sheffield City of Culture 2029 bid consultation – help get heritage on the agenda!

JUHS online briefing

This will take place online at 4pm on Friday 17th July 2026. We are pleased to be joined by a member of the City of Culture 2029 team to give a briefing on the bid and consultation process. Laura Alston, the Council’s Heritage Development Manager, will also be joining us. We will be welcoming comments and suggestions about heritage can form a central part of the bid.

No need to book. Just join the meeting at https://meet.google.com/zgj-ivta-hur.

We’ll do our best to capture as many ideas as possible during the meeting, but you can also submit your own response or add detail to an idea online or by email.

What you can do – individually or as a group:

• Come to the JUHS online briefing, 4pm on Friday 17th July
• Submit a consultation response by 30th July. Click this link for the City of Culture 2029 consultation page or email your response to CultureSheffield@sheffield.gov.uk.
• Organise your own survey via Community Conversations and Culture Conversations. Be quick! Must take place by 24th July. Details on the consultation page.
• Join one of the Creative Assemblies on 15th, 16th, 21st or 30th July. Click here for details and how to reserve a place.
• Share details of this event and ways to respond with your friends, family. If you are a member of a heritage group ask them to share with its mailing list.

Why your feedback is vital

JUHS is delighted that Sheffield has been long-listed for City of Culture 2029 and is now working on its more detailed bid. We believe strongly that heritage must form a major part of the city’s bid. The DCMS announcement explicitly refers to “local culture and heritage”.

Please help to put heritage firmly on the agenda for this bid by submitting a response, however brief, to the consultation. If you have ideas for events, themes, venues or creative or performance opportunities that could showcase Sheffield’s rich and diverse heritage during this year-long festival please mention these in your submission.

Our aim is to demonstrate as much support for heritage as possible. Please make your voice heard by 30th July.
