Kelham Island tour guide Anders Hanson showcases the history and fascinating stories of the area.
Kelham Island has developed from one of Sheffield’s first industrial districts to an area recently named in the top 50 coolest places in the world. This history talk will bring the area to life with fascinating stories about its history, and the successes and the tragedies of the people who made the area what it is.
It’ll tell the stories of buildings such as Green Lane Works, Globe Works and Cornish Place. It’ll also look at some of the great industrialists, manufacturers and workers whose wares were world famous and put Sheffield on the map. It also includes a brief look at the life of an anti-slavery campaigner who was born in the area, as well as a pen-knife maker’s wife whose tough personal circumstances led to her seeing her poetry in print.
