The story of The Sheffield Royal Saw

Wednesday, 1st May 2024

2:00 pm to 3:00 pm

Kelham Island Museum

This talk tells the story of a unique saw made in Sheffield, combining not only the saw maker’s art of shaping, polishing and finishing steel and brass, but also the ivory carver, and the designer and etcher of decoration on the blade. The saw was presented to Queen Victoria’s daughter in 1858 and has been on a long journey since it was finally returned to Sheffield in 2019.
