Zion Graveyard Open Afternoon

A chance to explore the forgotten graveyard of Zion Congregational Church Attercliffe, a surprisingly beautiful oasis in an industrial landscape.  Each grave cleared has been painstakingly researched and the history of the once vibrant community pieced together.   Due to past vandalism, this site is only open twice a month –  on the afternoon of  the second Sunday of the month and the preceding Wednesday.  It cannot be seen from the road and is tricky to find.

It is just a ten minute walk from Attercliffe tram stop or if driving you can usually park in the free car park opposite Ace Janitorial,  694 – 698 Attercliffe Road.  Walk away from Attercliffe Road past the white Auto Repair Workshop ( formerly Zion Sunday School) and enter by the small gate and narrow path past the car compound on the site of the demolished church.

There is an alternative easier entrance round the back from the end of Ferguson Street, by the brick wall.

You can approach from the River Don by walking through Attercliffe Cemetery and the Memorial Garden where Christ Church once stood,  out on to Attercliffe Road then follow the instructions above.  For further information contact 07980 143776
