Hillsborough and Owlerton Local History Group

The group was started in 2004, with members of the Hillsborough Community Development Trust. We held our first meetings at The Gardeners Rest, Neepsend. Moved to the Hillsborough Sports Arena, when the River Don flooded  in 2007. We have recently moved to the Hillsborough Trinity Methodist Church Middlewood Road S6 4HE.  The group meets on the 3rd Thursday of the month, except December, 2nd Thursday.  We start at 7.30pm and finish around 9pm. Our talks are varied but usually about Sheffield and the surrounding areas. We welcome both members and visitors and encourage our meetings to be friendly.

The group has acquired in 2019 4 Cine films of our area. The films taken between the early 1930s to the early 1950s are of people enjoying days out to the seaside, picnics, Whit walks, social afternoons, amateur dramatics, The Star Walk and eating the delicacy of ice cream. With a Heritage Lottery Grant the York Film Archives have cleaned and put the films on to D.V.D.  The Cine Films are 16mm, and are a delight to watch. They have been further edited to make a film about 70 minutes.  Also we take the film to show to groups who would find it interesting.
