South Yorkshire Local Heritage List now open for nominations!
The four local authorities in South Yorkshire have been awarded funding to create a Local Heritage List. Visit the website https://local-heritage-list.org.uk/south-yorkshire to find more and get involved with local listing in South Yorkshire. There you will find the list itself, information about local heritage listing, “how to” guides and the nomination form. There is also a blog and forum for users to share information, ask questions or find out about related events.
Anyone can nominate a historic place – which could be a building, structure, garden, landmark, archaeological site or landscape – and it will be considered for addition to the list by an expert panel. Anything added to the list gets additional protection, but even if it doesn’t your information will be used to enhance South Yorkshire’s Historic Environment Record to help future historians.
Over the next few months there will be other events, both online and in person, all over South Yorkshire, to spread the word about the LHL and how people get involved, so look out for these on the events section of the website.
If you have any questions or would like any more information, please contact: Sarah Cattell, Archaeological Records Officer – Local Heritage Listing Project, South Yorkshire Archaeology Service – syorks.archservice@sheffield.gov.uk.
