JUHS bi-monthly meeting

The next JUHS bi-monthly meeting is on Tuesday 25th March 2025 at 10:30am and is a “hybrid” meeting, so you can either attend in person at SADACCA, 48 Wicker, Sheffield S3 8JB or online via Zoom at:

We’re excited to be visiting SADACCA (Sheffield and District African Caribbean Community Association). Chief Executive Olivier Tsemo will be our guest speaker, talking about the vital and progressive work that SADACCA does. JUHS trustee Robin Hughes will also provide a short presentation on the beautiful listed building that is SADACCA’s home.

Castle update and walk: As we are close to Sheffield’s historic Castlegate, after the close of the meeting (no later than 12:30pm) Natasha Bramall of Wessex Archaeology will lead a walk outside the perimeter of the castle site and explain some of the new archaeological discoveries that have been made. Note that the castle site itself will *not* be accessible, and the archaeological remains are covered for their protection. Natasha’s guided walk will make use of the views available from the street.

Sheffield Environment Weeks 2025 - Saturday 26th April 2025 to Thursday 5th June

Sheffield Environment Weeks originally started in 1984 as part of a national showcase of volunteer events. It has continued in Sheffield for many years after the national programme ceased, with environmental and heritage themed events across Sheffield being advertised as part of Sheffield Environment Weeks every year since in the weeks around World Environment Day. Sheffield Environment Weeks is organised by volunteers and we don't charge either organisations or the public to list or view events.

Heritage and the environment are a good fit. Many green spaces contain heritage assets or are heritage assets themselves, and the natural environment is one of our major heritage assets. If heritage groups are running any events that coincide with Sheffield Environment Weeks they are welcome to have them publicised as part of this year's programme. The events publicised are generally either free or provided at low cost.

Events are advertised online at https://www.sheffieldenvironment.org (from next year we hope to return to a printed programme as well). You can either register on the website and add events yourself, or send details or links to events@sheffieldenvironment.org. Sheffield Historic Buildings Trust achieves charitable status

Sheffield Historic Buildings Trust is now a charity (Charitable Incorporated Organisation). We have a core of volunteer building professionals, and is a practical rather than a campaigning organisation. Our aim is to work with developers and community groups to help them to bring buildings into use.

We're particularly keen on working with community groups who own or lease buildings that need improving. We also have a number of people in our wider network who can provide heritage craft skills and can give people links to and advice on these.
