In the 1770s the Duke of Norfolk had a waggonway laid from his Manor collieries into town. This became one of the first cast-iron railways and may well have contained some of the earliest railway infrastructure in the world. This presentation given at our meeting on 24 May 2022 by Calvin Payne covers what has been discovered so far and the plans to explore further.
